Services of the Municipality of Athens are on high alert, and measures for vulnerable groups, employees, and stray animals are being implemented ahead of Wednesday, when a Special Weather Advisory has warned of a heatwave and a maximum threat of fire (category 5, Red Code).

To prevent the risk of a forest fire, starting at midnight tonight (Tuesday) and until further notice, visitors are prohibited from entering or remaining on the Lycabettus and Finopoulos Hills, and vehicles are prohibited from passing through them.

In addition, tankers with a water cannon and 4×4 cars have been placed on standby both at Lycabettus Hill and at the Athens Municipality Campsite in Aghios Andreas, in eastern Attica. The city has also opened seven air conditioned rooms, while seven Friendship Clubs of the city will continue to operate 9 am to 9 pm for citizens.
