Four people in total were killed during a shooting spree today, Monday the 12th, after an armed man invaded a Greek shipping company in Attica, Glyfada.
Although there hasn't been any official announcements yet, according to several reports the company is revealed to be European Navigation Inc.
The 70-year-old perpetrator was allegedly a former worker in the company and killed four people, including himself. The shipowner’s sister, Maria Karnesi, and her brother-in-law (the company's CEO) were among his victims. The third person killed was an ex-captain, who worked for the shipping company as well.
According to the latest information, there are no injuries among the company workers, although two people suffered panic attacks and were preemptively transferred to the hospital.
The shooter, of Egyptian descent, worked for the shipowner’s family as a janitor for decades, before he got fired, some reports suggest. He deliberately targeted his former employers, although further details regarding his motives have not yet been revealed.
It has been speculated that the man might have wanted to take revenge on his former bosses.
«He wanted revenge from his bosses. He was asking everyone to leave, he didn’t want to hurt anyone else», an eye witness said.
The shooter’s last words
The bystanders report that the 70-year-old man invaded the company’s headquarters this morning with no warning.
The company’s employees called the police at 10:20 am, pointing out he was carrying a gun. A hostage situation followed, as the police, members of the elite counterterrorism unit EKAM, fire engines, and multiple ambulances surrounded the building. The man, however, refused any communication with the authorities.
«It’s time to clear things up», were the man’s last words, before he started shooting. Panic ensued and the workers started frantically running, trying to hide from the attacker.
The first people he shot were the two men, managing to wound them fatally, before moving towards Mrs. Karnezi’s office. The woman’s door was locked, but the man managed to access the office, by shooting at the door.

After shooting the woman dead, he ultimately turned the gun onto himself and was subsequently found found fatally injured at the basement warehouse, next to his gun.
